Someone’s In The Kitchen With Lynnette Lynnette
Seah has many talents. The formidable woman,
who is best known as an internationally acclaimed
Singaporean violinist and who has served as co-
leader of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra
(SSO), has long been interested in cooking and
hosting, having been doing so long before she set CHEF + RESTAURANT
up Lynnette’s Kitchen in 2015. A Cultural Medallion
winner of 2006 and Singapore Women’s Hall of
Fame inductee, Ms Seah’s illustrious day-job and
her achievements should not let people shy away
from dining at her house. “It’s very simple,” she says,
laying out the facts straight away for us. “I’m doing
this from my own home because I love entertaining
from my own home. I feel like this is the best area for
me, because I don’t want to rent or host in another
place.” And indeed, some people do share the same
reasons for running a private dining establishment
like Ms Seah. In the years she’s been running the
establishment, it is very clear the woman is most
comfortable on her home turf, and thus she is able
to express herself the most within her own home.

Ms Seah’s interest in Peranakan cooking has led
her to try her own recipes in Peranakan cuisine,
which she regularly dishes out to her guests in her
distinguished home. “ I always like creating my
own ways of doing recipes, and through multiple
tries, the recipes are in my head, which I also
write down.” This means that every dish served in
Lynnette’s Kitchen is borne from her own take on
the recipe. “All my dishes are special
in the sense that they’re not from
any cookbook, they’re all dishes and
recipes that I’ve developed on my
own, with my own taste and style.” She
says matter of factly. “It’s a little bit like my classical
violin playing. I like to play things the way I feel it,
and I cook things the way I feel. They all keep to the
original classic taste of the dish, but adding my own
special touch to the recipe.” She uses the example
of her take on the assam pedas. “Sometimes I make 12.assam pedas 13. ayam kleo
it with the gravy, but on occasions such as during
the World Gourmet Summit in 2016,” (She was 本地知名的国际小提琴家佘美幸女士就是其中一
