Disappearing Singapore desserts

The joy of strolling into a local confectionary and buying some of our familiar local desserts is a treat that we indulge in from time to time. What I have noticed is that, such places are slowly disappearing from our sight. When we think of desserts for tea time or general consumption, the first bubble of thought in our minds draw out images of foreign creations such as macaroons and pavlova. Are we losing our local creations as our taste buds changes due to global influences?
