Vegetables by Panasonic This may sound weird but it’s true. Famous for their electronic products and television sets, Japan’s Panasonic has made a ‘career’ shift and ventured into the world of agriculture. It is reported recently that they have started their sale of fresh green produces to Japanese restaurants. It is said to be the first ever licensed indoor vegetable farm in Singapore. This transition binds Panasonic’s firm drive into farming technology with limited –land- space Singapore who aims to decrease our total dependence on importing food. The ‘vertical farm’ currently produces a small production of 3.6 tonnes annually, produces 10 types of vegetables such as mini red radishes and baby spinach. Their intention is to produce more than 30 ranges of crop by 2017 and account for approximately 5 percent of locally grown produces. It is reported that the price of vegetables grown here will cost half than those flown in from Japan.
