Ideas for a more sustainable sea-based farming system

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) is encouraging fish farms and related companies to present suggestions to establish better farming structure to combat adverse environment conditions. AVA is expecting the proposals by the end of August 2014. The AVA has received S$1.25 million from the Co-Innovation Partnership (or CI Partnership) to develop a more viable sea-based farming system. This initiative is to assist fish farmers in the wake of the massive fish deaths in February. The colossal deaths of the fishes were reported to be caused by a plankton bloom which can drain seawater of oxygen.
