A hefty  $43,000 restaurant tip A handsome tip usually translates that the customer is satisfied with their dining experience. The practice on the amount of tipping varies. Some think 15 percent is fine; others insist on 20 percent; some say you should tip pre-tax, others on an after-tax basis.

But what if you get a $43,000 tip? A problem was discovered when a customer made a tip on that sheer amount after having an $8 meal in Brooklyn Bridge Bagel Works. The investigation showed that customer had used a new tipping machine, which allows patrons to punch in a tip based on a pre-set percentage, such as 15 percent or 20 percent.
