The French has had it with microwaved and pre-packaged food passing off as REAL food in restaurants and cafes. The authorities are announcing a new “home-made” label for chefs and eateries that cook their food practically from scratch. This new “home-made” logo will be display for all to see if chefs create dishes all by themselves without the help of pre-packed products. This initiative is in response to growing concerns that France’s prized gastronomic reputation is in peril due to the damage done by shoddy eateries serving pre–made dishes as supposedly quality cuisine. The aim of this initiative is to recognize the act of cooking and know–how by giving the consumer simple and reliable information said French Consumer Affairs Minister Carole Delga. Fast food chains will not be able to be considered for this certification. The hotel and restaurant industry is thrilled with this move. In April last year, a 15 member industry group established by the country’s top chefs launched a similar movement called “quality restaurant”. The group consists of Alain Ducasse. Joel Robuchon, Guy Savoy and many more. Many website are supporting this movement by setting sites advising consumers on restaurants where food is prepared truly in-house.
