3,000 Hectares Of Vines Destroyed

Spirits have been destroyed as well with a whopping 3,000 hectares of vines damaged. Burgundy producers are disheartened and are now requesting government aid in the form of tax relief, subsidies and funding to increase anti-hail measures following the hailstorm that destroyed almost everything. Pommard suffered the most with 70-90% damage done. Beaune-based vintner, Alex Gambal, exclaimed that “we had a spectacular start with vines in beautiful condition and perfect weather since March 1.” Indeed it is terrible news to hear that months down the road with high hopes of harvesting, it is now gone with the wind with no salvage unless for those still usable. Pains, tears and sweats all down the drain.
