Touching on the theme of sustainability, the first Foodiepreneur Competition held by Deliveroo saw Wearelittlebites winning the grand prize of three months rent-free kitchen space at Deliveroo Food Market, outfitted with basic kitchen equipment (worth $15,000), and $10,000 in cash.
To encourage the next generation of game-changers in the food industry, Deliveroo invited aspiring chefs and entrepreneurs to submit their proposed business concepts. Following a round of careful deliberation, seven contenders were selected to undergo a series of workshops and mentorship sessions and run their own pop-up kitchens for one day earlier in October. The competition was launched by Deliveroo to support local talents in starting or advancing their restaurant businesses.
Contenders for the Foodiepreneur Competition were required to pitch their business concepts and signature dishes to a panel of esteemed judges, including Deliveroo executives, Executive Chef Adam Penney from Three Buns, Creative Director Andrei Soen from Park Bench Deli and Mr Michael Tan, CEO of Singapore Productivity Centre.
Wearelittlebites, consisting of Kristoffer Tian and Jonathan Tong utilised sustainable suppliers for dishes including har Mee, their rendition of the local prawn mee, and barramudi ceviche with purple sorrel vinaigrette, and emerged as winners. “It has been an amazing experience taking part in this competition, learning from Deliveroo, industry experts, judges and other finalists.” said Kristoffer.
“Kristoffer and Jonathan impressed the judges with their creation and strong business acumen, and we look forward to getting them set up at Deliveroo Food Market in the coming months, so consumers can try their amazing dish too.” said Siddharth Shanker, Deliveroo Singapore’s General Manager.
Guests can look forward to the first quarter of 2020 to find Wearelittlebites’ at Deliver Food Market via order-in or dine-in.
