The inaugural Most Gracious Host Challenge, held at Equip&Dine Asia and SEAsia Café Expo for three days, was the site where passionate home-chefs whipped up unique culinary creations.
Three teams of home-chefs – PAB, SG Foodies and For Food-Sake – took turns to impress the judges of the competition, which included celebrity Chef Eric Teo, Chef Louis Tay and Randy Chow. Creating four/five-course menus in this three day event, the event was meant to celebrate the best of Singapore's growing private-home dining industry.
Team PAB clinched the top prize with their ‘A Mediterranean Summer‘ themed 5-course menu, inspired by the French Provence cooking with the influence of the Mediterranean spices. The menu focuses on the simplicity, high- spirit of Provence cooking, preserving the taste & texture of fresh ingredients like tomatoes, garlic, olives and aromatic wild herbs, infused with exotic spices from the Mediterranean region such as saffron, paprika & cayenne chile. Dishes they created included Sautéed Garlic Spiced Prawns Infused with Lemon Confit, Crispy Skin Spiced Chicken Oven Baked with Fresh Rosemary and Thyme, Roasted Pumpkin and Goat's Cheese Puree, and Mixed Berries Infused with Lavender Oil Sorbet on Chocolate Almond Soil, Honey Meringue & Lemon Curd .
Teams SG Foodies received second for their 4-course seafood menu, inspired by their individual loves for travel eats and heritage. am For Food-Sake ‘Spice Royale’ Indian and British inspired 4-course menu received 3rd.
Luke Lee, Founder of Dine Inn and the organiser of Most Gracious Host Challenge commented : “We believe that Singapore’s culinary gems are hidden from plain sight and in the kitchen of every home. Nothing beats the sincerity and attention to detail from our home chefs when they lovingly prepare a private dinner for you.”
