Austrian wine exports is on the rise: 2018 saw a new record for Austrian wine exports, at 170.3 million Euros globally, a rise of 6.9% more than 2017.
2018 was a great year for Austrian exports thanks to greater harvest volume of 2017, which gave rise to a higher supply of wine offered on the market, as well as continuously growing bottled wine sales.
The rise in sales can be attributed to non-EU countries who have been showing a rising interest in Austrian wines, countries that include the United States and Canada. However, EU member states are also showing a great rise of exports in both volume and value, like Germany, which remains Austria’s largest export market
Mr Willi Klinger, General Manager of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board, is satisfied with the records, stating, “Austrian wine is on the right track. For fifteen years, exports have grown by an average of 6.5% per annum. If we maintain our current successful quality strategy, within five years every litre of wine from Austria will be sold at a profit.”
