New on the block is Modern Japanese concept restaurant and highball bar Chi- Kinjo. A new addition to the Coterie Concepts family, Chi-Kinjo is a restaurant and bar that follows the narrative of four other concept bars around the Telok Ayer area, about three women caught in the fraught threads of a powerful Hong Kong man. Chi-Kinjo’s storyline is one of fascination, power, and their life-like personalities can be seen throughout the entire establishment. The entire menu is created by Chef Lamley Chua and drinks are conceptualized and made by Group Chief Bartender Sam Wong, who handles all the drink menus in all four establishments.
With 5 distinct sections (Starters, Maki, Aburi Nigiri, Hot Small Plates and Hot Big Plates), the food served is distinctly Japanese, but with a few twists guaranteed to help your tongue explode with flavours. One of the food items that is a guaranteed stand out in the menu is the Smoked Wagyu Steak, served with sunchoke chips and pickled mushrooms. Eaten with the black garlic onion cream and umami soy reduction, the meat is tender, beautifully smoked and lends an extra texture to the meat. Another dish to look out for is their Keffir Lime Karaage, served with red pepper dip. The keffir lime adds an extra tang to the chicken, and the red pepper sauce counteracts with any possible citrus-y taste.
Also available on the menu is a line of alcoholic drinks that will be sure to tickle your fancy. Diners can look forward to not just draft beer and sake , but also to cocktails like the Gin and Ginger, a drink made with tanqueray, ginger, ginger beer, lime juice and mint leaves. What you get ultimately is a drink with a citrusy blast and a kick of ginger that does not overwhelm the drink.
Chi-Kinjo is located at 29 Stanley St, Singapore 068738, and the official launch is on the 24th January 2019. To find out more, click
