Towards Zero Waste

Towards Zero Waste To preserve Bali’s nature, initiatives have been made to encourage zero waste. Machinery and systems are being built to recycle 98 percent of all waste. Materials are separated into organic, recyclables and non-recyclables, and transformed so that they can be reused. The production of natural dyes, organic cotton weaving, and soap recycling is also carried out. In partnership with the Danish Embassy, awareness campaigns and conferences are also being organised.

With a mind towards sustainable tourism, Alila hotels in Bali have adopted a ‘zero waste to landfill’ project, with waste composting systems for all organic waste, and a permaculture organic garden that provides fresh raw food for the hotels’ kitchens. Technology is also being used to convert plastic waste like wraps and films into a light green crude oil, that will be converted to diesel, kerosene and gasoline for use in the hotels.
