Myanmar Chefs Association Lends A Helping Hand To Bago Flood Victims The team of Mynanmar Chefs Association members arrived just 6 days after the Mandalay RESCUE was set up. Rescue and repair logistics were already afoot at several small villages and towns along the Sittang River, where villagers and monasteries were isolated from the rest of the country by the disastrous flood.

Chef Ya Nanda led a team of local chefs and volunteers, running a soup kitchen counter that was opened through the afternoon. Hot and nurtritious, the meals were served from reusable 20L and 50L drums directly into bowls, instead of polluting the area with foam boxes and plastic bags.

With 50kg of Australian beef, 50kg of Norwegian salmon, 600 ports of Shwe Wein noodle, 150kg of dry beans, chick peas, lentils, and tamarind donated generously by the IKON Market and Pastry Alliance, the locals enjoyed a delicious, healthy menu:

Radish Soup with Marsalla Powder & Chili Paste
Tom Yam Noodle Soup with Chick Peas
Rick Lentil Curry with Dry Chili and Fresh Coriander
Slow Cooked Japan Flavored Beef Curry
Pumpkin Soup with Ginger
Chick Pea curry with Curry Leaves
Salmon Nga San Hine Curry
Dry Bean Soup

Along with hot meals, 1000 t-shirts were donated by Wave Water, various drinks by Dagon Beverages, hundreds of bags of rice, and 4000 Euro worth of "Tamiflu" against H1 virus by German Interplast and Stiftung Life to the locals. Realised in just two days of planning, this mission would've not have been possible without the assistance of Mandalay RESCUE, volunteers in Madauk, and especially the kind financial donations from chefs and individuals based in Myanmar and Singapore.
