As part of a series of Best Sommelier in French Wines Competitions organised by Sopexa across Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Macao, and South Korea), four candidates selected during the semi-finals on 4 September were tested on techniques such as identification, decanting, service, and speed on 20 September. The winner of the 2017 edition is Inthran Ramasamy from Mandarin Orientation Singapore. His rigour and technique won him recognition from the judges, as well as a trip to France made possible by the Union des Grands Crus of Bordeaux. The first runner-up position went to Daisuke Kawai of La Terre, who will join Inthran in representing Singapore during the Asia Finale of the Best Sommelier in French Wines Competition to be held from 13 – 15 December in Taipei.
