"It is my honour to welcome you all at the opening ceremony of Food Japan 2017, a bridge for F&B businesses between Japan and ASEAN.It is our 6th year, and each year, we grow bigger and better. The showcase will see over close to 3000 items and close to 300 exhibitors from 38 prefectures. Half of the items this year are new to the show. This year’s edition will highlight the leading food trends in Japan’s health food, including gluten-free options. Visitors will also get to sample over 3,000 ingredients, food and beverages from different prefectures, " said Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr Mitsuhiro Miyakoshi.
Food Japan 2017 returns for its sixth edition, from 26 – 28 October 2017, at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, Halls 401 – 402. The exhibition will be featuring healthy and functional food products, in tandem with societal and health trends across Singapore and ASEAN markets. Singapore has a diabetic population of 11.3 per cent, with the number of diabetics in the nation expected to increase to 670,000 by 2030; diabetics in ASEAN is expected to more than double by 2030 as obesity
continues to rise in the region. The growing awareness of health problems among consumers and corresponding demand for healthy and functional foods has led to a burgeoning functional food market in ASEAN,
tipped to be worth around $35billion, with functional beverages accounting for around 40% of market share.
Japan, who first proposed the concept of functional food back in 1980s, is now a global industry leader. The “low-carb and low-sugar” market in Japan was worth JPY343.1 million in 2016, a 11.1 per cent increase from 2015 and food processing companies have stepped up to develop and market these products for diabetics, which was subsequently adopted by the mass market that seeks healthier options. Food Japan serves as a platform to bring in the best and most interesting functional foods from Japan to Singapore during the exhibition.
