Futuristic Calorie Counter

The latest weapon in the war against calories is a device that shoots a laser to reveal the constituents and calories in your meal. Called the TellSpec, it is a spectrometre that is able to derive all this information by analysing the photons emitted by the food molecules and sorts them according to wavelength. The theory behind this device is not too far-fetched either; NASA currently employs a spectrometer to find out what materials exist on Mars. The applications for this device are widespread. It could be used by those seeking to control their calorie intake or at least inform themselves more about what they eat. More importantly, it could help those with specific food allergies stop from accidentally ingesting foods that contain allergens. So far the company has raised more than its target sum of $100,000 on the fundraising website Indiegogo and hopes to start manufacturing the device in the next three to four months.
