The multinational food giant Nestlé has signed a research agreement with Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star). The agreement will aid its research and development in the areas of nutrition, packaging, data analytics and biotransformation, which is the use of natural processes such as fermentation to add nutritional or functional value to ingredients. The three-year agreement will see scientists on both sides working together in various food science and technology research programmes. Nestlé hopes that the information gleaned from the research will help them to develop superior products for their consumers. Access to all of A*Star’s 18 research institutes has been granted to Nestlé; similar access has only been granted to two other companies before. This agreement also validates Singapore’s position as a leader in the field of scientific research and development.
