Fans of Japanese anime and manga in Taiwan were rejoicing over the holiday break when McDonald’s decided to hire people to dress up as classic characters of Japanese anime and manga to serve as waitresses at their outlet just outside Taipei station. The stunt proved so popular that on New Year’s Eve, they extended it to all their outlets in Taiwan. There were different themes each day. On Christmas eve, they dressed up as French maids, wearing pink uniforms complete with apron and high socks. Christmas day had them dressed up as air stewardesses while on Boxing day they dressed up as Japanese schoolgirls. The publicity stunt has certainly placed McDonald’s in high regard among Japanese manga and anime fans in Taiwan.
