Places to Visit This Chinese New Year: Restaurants Not To Be Missed

1. Boathouse Restaurant
 
Celebrate the Lunar New Year at Boathouse Restaurant in the Fullerton Waterboat House with French fare amid a classy setting from 27th January to 1st February. A special three-course meal is available on those days at $78 per person. Those with dinner reservations on the eve of Chinese New Year, 30th January, will also be treated to a spectacular fireworks display over the Marina Bay area while dining.
 
2. The Halia
 
The Halia, located within the Singapore Botanic Gardens has some special dishes lined up for this Lunar New Year period. Coming up with their own twist on the traditional Yusheng platter, the “Halia Yusheng”,  a combination of Ginger Marinated Salmon “Yu Sheng”, Kumquat and Plum Sauce, Shredded Vegetables and Roast Peanut ($26++ for one, $88++ for 10 people), promises an auspicious beginning to the new year. To sweeten things further, the restaurant will be serving a Dragonfruit pudding ($14++). The above dishes are available for lunch and dinner from 20 January to 13 February. Also available from 13 January to 13 February is the ‘Lo Hei Party’ (Package price from $888++). Consisting of a Yu Sheng platter, a wide variety of menus, an exclusive Lunar New Year drinks list, and mandarin orange gift packs, it promises to be a festive occasion for all.
 
3. Orchard Hotel
 
Begin Chinese New Year with a bang on 31st January 2014, 9.30am at the Orchard Hotel Singapore with a traditional lion dance performance. Masterchef Lap Fai at Hua Ting Restaurant has also come up with 15 different Chinese New Year set menus featuring auspicious and traditional dishes such as Braised King Tiger Prawn with Spicy Shrimp Paste, and Braised Abalone with Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber, Whole Conpoy, Fa Cai, Shitake Mushrooms and Seasonal Greens in Superior Oyster Sauce. Hua Ting also has two different Yu Sheng platters this year, one called Fresh Toro and Fresh Fruits with Seasonal Greens “Lo Hei” Yu Sheng ($208 small, $388 large). One can also takeaway traditional “Pen Cai” and other gift hampers.
 
4. Peony Jade
 
Peony Jade Restaurant is poised to welcome customers to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a wide selection of 8 festive dishes, 3 new desserts and takeaway options. Start the festivities with a stunning horse-shaped Yu Sheng platter only available for dine-in at their Keppel Club location. Also get to enjoy other enticing creations such as Golden Suckling Pig Stuffed With Glutinous Rice. Dim Sum Master Chef Wong’s handcrafted creations, Sea Birdnest Glutinous Rice Cakes made into horse shapes and koi-shaped Nian Gao, filled with flavours such as orh-ni (yam) and D24 durians, will bring a sweet element to your celebrations and also make excellent gifts for family and friends.
