In the Ice Cream Innovation Competition organised by Nanyang Polytechnic and Swensen’s, a team of three students from NUS High School of Maths and Science won over the judges with a wild, and very original flavour of sweet potato and ikan bilis ice cream. Beating nine other teams from other schools in Singapore who also came up with equally unique combinations such as ginger and sesame (Assumption English School), and wasabi with caramel (Bedok South Secondary). The aim of the competition was to come up with flavour combinations that contrasted but went well together at the same time. While no one would have imagined sweet potato and ikan bilis to go well, the enterprising students did and the judges saw fit to reward them with the prize.
