Famous chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten shuttered his only Boston restaurant last December after only three years “due to the rising costs of labour in the hotel landscape in Boston”. The highly rated Market was a farm-to-table restaurant, having fresh produce delivered directly from farmers and producers to the restaurant, ensuring high-quality ingredients all the time. The restaurant initially opened to much fanfare, garnering high-ratings from publications such as the Boston Globe, Improper Bostonian and Boston Magazine. Some have attributed its closure to its location within the Theatre district, while others point to its housing within a hotel, saying that hotel restaurants do not work as well as before.
