Italy's vegan controversies: A Chef's Outburst and a Law to Jail Vegan Parents When the popular Chef Gianfranco Vissani likened vegans to a sect saying that they were like Jehovah's Witnesses, you can be sure that there would be some discord with the vegan community. But when he said "What would I do with the vegans? I would kill them all." He did more than cause outrage. The cooking program, In Onda did an episode on molecular gastronomy.  One chef mentioned that molecular gastronomy was like a lifestyle and that sparked an abusive tirade from Chef Vissani. 
 

A law was recently proposed following a few cases where children were severely malnourished to see the parents who force restrictive vegan diets on their young children behind bars. Elvira Savino, of Forza Italia party commented on the proposed law by saying that stigmatizing the thoughtless eating behaviour inflicted on kids by their parents would be the goal.
