Reserving Food For The Needy

by Clover Ng @ 27 Dec 2013
Reserving Food For The Needy Singaporeans have a very unique way of expressing the word ‘reserve’ in Singlish terms, i.e. Chope. For example, “I chope the seats already!” Well instead of spreading this love of ‘choping’ seats, let’s start ‘choping’ food for the needy. With our office placed near Redhill, lunch time at the nearby hawker centre is a must. There is this store that we have passed by several times, with little knowledge of what it is selling. That store, is one of NTUC Foodfare’s Rice Garden stalls housed in ten hawker centres. The stalls aim in selling subsidised meals to those on public assistance and members of the public are welcomed to purchase vouchers for these meals from 30th December. This voucher scheme is set up with a phenomenon seen by many who wishes to pay for the food of the needy, in advance as well as those who are frequent meal providers, dropping by households. Vouchers are priced at $1.99 each, equivalent to the price of a subsidised Rice Garden meal and corporates may wish to buy in bulk as well from Foodfare’s corporate office and website.
