Raising The Halal Standards In China Despite having a halal certificate, Muslims in China worry that food is not prepared according to Islamic guidelines. Political leaders have gathered at a conference, and officials have once again called for national standards to be imposed on halal food. In some provinces, regulations have been flouted or lax and this has angered residents.  Last year in Xi’an, Muslims protested the sale of alcohol in halal restaurants and in Xining, pork products were found inside a halal bakery’s delivery van.
