Europe’s Olive Oil Crisis

Bad weather and disease have affected Europe’s olive oils harvest. Consumers now have to pay 20 per cent more when purchasing olive oils. According to a study, retail prices had gone up by an average of 19.8 per cent across Europe. This resulted in consumers forking out an additional €231m in 2015 on olive oil. Last year, the world’s top two producers of olive oils, Spain and Italy, had poor harvests, and after a bacteria outbreak in the southern part of Italy, wholesale prices skyrocketed. Learn more here:
