Time To Cut Down On Food Wastage Over the past 10 years, food wastage here in Singapore has grown by 48 per cent, and with a population target of 6.9 million in 2030, the number is expected to rise. In 2014, only 13 per cent of food wastage was recycled out of 790,000 tonnes generated. Space will be a problem at Semakau landfill as it is the only one left in Singapore. Some initiatives driven to help this problem include developing an app by Zero Waste SG and an #unhappyplatesg project which shares images of leftover food on Facebook.
