Asia Has Found Its Best Sommelier in French Wines 2015 The 1st Asia Best Sommelier Competition in French Wines 2015 took place the 9th and 10th December 2015 at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Sopexa and the French Ministry of Agriculture were among the first to organise, back in the 1980’s, international sommelier competition on French wines.  The last 20 years saw a tremendous increase in the number and level of sommelier in the region, and a rising demand for knowledge and for acknowledgement. For all these reasons, it was decided to relaunch this competition.

This international competition gathered 16 candidates from 8 Asian countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Macao and South Korea. The 2 best sommeliers of each country were selected and invited to participate the Asia final to represent their country through national competitions that happened earlier this year.

The winner was Mr. Jungmin An, Head sommelier in the food service division of the SPC Group in South Korea, with first runner-up being Alan Au Kok Hoong of Iggy’s, Singapore and second runner-up going to Po-Ting Luo of Temple Restaurant Beijing, Taiwan.
