Alarm Bells for Jason Atherton: Chef Criticised for ‘Passionless Unmemorable Meals’ in Latest Harden’s Guide

Pollen Street Social Chef Jason Atherton’s crown could be slipping, according to the latest edition of the Harden’s restaurant guide which was released on 5 November 2015. The guide — now in its 25th year — ranks restaurants according to more than 60,000 individual reports submitted by over 6,700 Londoners, and has long been considered an influential gauge of the city’s restaurant scene.
The drop in ratings follows a frantic period for the chef — whose global portfolio now totals 14 restaurants — leading to suggestions he might be spreading himself too thinly.
Speaking to the Standard, the guide’s co-founder Peter Harden said, “Ratings for Pollen Street Social were significantly down and that is a warning bell as his empire is becoming quite big that he needs to be careful about how quickly he expands. “Most chefs really struggle to grow their empires and so far he has done a phenomenal job of opening brilliant restaurants left, right and centre.
