“Extra Virgin” Olive Oil

Is the extra virgin olive oil you always buy actually all that it claims to be? A recent study done by the University of California, Davis may prove otherwise. In an analysis of some of the top brands to be found in supermarkets all over the US, 73% were found to not meet the standards required by the International Olive Council (IOC) to deem them as “extra virgin”. This problem though, seems to be confined to the US due to comparatively relaxed labeling laws. Consumers in Singapore need not worry about their extra virgin olive oil hiding something nasty.
