The Fat Duck Re-opens: First Taste of the New Menu

After a six-month closure for renovation while the team decamped to Melbourne, the one-time “World’s Best Restaurant” and three-Michelin star holder has reopened with a revamped menu and a flurry of anticipation. A meal at the new Fat Duck is a performance, with the waiters and waitresses, all in tweed uniforms and brogues, akin to actors.
The plot is 24 hours of seaside holiday and, in place of a menu, there’s a map and a magnifying glass on each table. Some dishes remain from the old menu, but re-inspired. With an immersive and interactive approach, there’s the famous Sound of the Sea, a delectable dish of sashimi with seaweed notes, eaten while listening to a pair of headphones that play the sound of crashing waves and children playing.
