A Childhood Fairytale Meal & A Chef’s Utopian Fantasy

With menu items like “The Witches – The Potion” and “The Chocolate Factory – Wonky!”, one can immediately tell that Chef Stephan Zoisl is a big fan of well-known children’s author Roald Dahl. Drawing inspiration from the fantasy stories of his childhood, Chef set up the pop-up restaurant Nutopia at (location), for a one-time dinner entitled “A Tribute To Roald Dahl” on 29 November 2013. The 12-course meal included many culinary interpretations of particular events or symbols within Roald Dahl’s books, for example “Fantastic Mr Fox – Chicken Hunt” and “James and the Giant Peach – Peachy Peach”. The dinner certainly took diners back on a short journey in time, reliving their childhoods through the creations of Chef Zoisl. To end the dinner off, diners were each given a packet of “snowy” powder and a tube of yellow liquid made from mango, a reminder of the Chef’s own childhood being forced to eat “yellow snow”. This by no means ended the evening on a sour note but instead was a reminder once again of our past childhoods, bitter or sweet.
