Ban On Shark Fin In Government Receptions

The Chinese government has officially announced a ban on serving shark fin, bird’s nest and wild animal products at official receptions and banquets. While this is part of a move to curb the excessive spending of some Communist Party officials, it seems too to be part of the greater movement of turning away from such controversial food items. The demand for shark fin especially has dropped as top hotels and restaurants have stopped serving the delicacy. In addition, expensive liquors and cigarettes are not to be served at official receptions and many other forms of spending are to be regulated.
