Bacteria causing deadly vine disease detected in France

A potential crisis may be brewing for the French wine industry, as the vine-killing bacteria Xylella fastidiosa has been found on French soil. This bacteria causes Pierce’s Disease, which has previously caused major damage to Californian vineyards, where it still costs $104m annually. However, French authorities remain optimistic about their eradication efforts, with French government vine expert Jacques Grosman saying that there was a “low risk of contamination in France.” Read more at:
