Cooking For Typhoon Haiyan Survivors

by Felix Lim @ 05 Dec 2013
Cooking For Typhoon Haiyan Survivors After the disaster of Typhoon Haiyan, the Philippine government has appealed for help in the difficult task of feeding the thousands displaced by the tragedy. Responding to this call for help are a group of chefs, lending their expertise and skill to aid by cooking meals for refugees. This group of chefs got together with Johann Young, Vice-President and Culinary Programmes Director of Academy for International Culinary Arts (AICA), temporarily at DSWD looking after the effective release of donated items, and Hazel Quilatorio Ypil, her family themselves survivors of the disaster. Other industry big names like Virginia Porkshop, Belcris Foods, Big Food and Ben Matoy also donated their products through Chef Steve Shrimski of Canbas Bistro & Bar. Chef Raki Urbina at Laguna Culinary Centre and Chefs Lorenda Torres, Nico Mabugat and Paolo Berdin at AICA were also involved in cooking meals for the survivors. Though still a long road of recovery ahead, these acts of kindness are going a long way in showing the compassion of people.
