A surplus of restaurants in the United States is making people fatter Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the United States.  A correlation between the greater availability of restaurant food and a rise in BMI, moderate and severe obesity has been found, attributed to the consumption of relatively unhealthy restaurant meals instead of home-cooked food.
