Roots Regenerative: Bringing a More Sustainable Way to Singapore
Roots Regenerative, the next generation beef produced from regenerative agriculture which heals and regenerates the natural environment, is finally in Singapore. Distributed by 900 Holdings, the brand is bringing its signature brand of beef farmed through a specific set of farming principles that prioritises the health of the ecosystem above all else.
But what is regenerative agriculture? Regenerative agriculture is farming that focuses primarily on building soil health to improve ecological outcomes. Regenerative Agriculture can be described through the five principles of Soil Health; Maximise Groundcover, Minimise Soil Disturbance, Maximise Plant Diversity, Maintain Living Roots, Introduce Livestock.
Regenerative agriculture goes beyond being sustainable–it heals and actively regenerates the land. “We are thrilled to bring our Roots Regenerative from Australia to Singapore,” Daniel Selwood, Roots Regenerative Program Leader, says. “Roots is the next generation of grass-fed beef offering consumers beef that is not just better for you, but better for the animal and better for the planet”.
But what makes Australia the best place to push the message of regenerative agriculture? To hear Mr Selwood explain it, it’s a matter of making use of elements that are already in place. “The Australian industry has set sustainability targets across a range of factors. These are communicated through the Australian Beef Sustainability Framework as well as setting an industry wide goal of being Carbon Neutral by 2030. While there are many avenues to achieving these goals, adopting Regenerative grazing management has shown huge potential to drawdown carbon from the atmosphere into the soil,” says Mr Selwood. “Australia’s beef industry and beef herd is huge, about the third largest in the world. So we are very blessed to have the amount of landscape in the right environment to be able to run so many cattle.” It also helps, he adds, that Australia export around 70% of all the beef the country produces, and thus Australia plays a huge role in feeding the world around us. “For us, to be able to connect Australian farmers with consumers all around the world? We’re quite blessed.”
“We strongly feel a product like Roots Regenerative has a place in Singapore because this is what the Singapore Government and every one in F&B has been preaching when it comes to sustainability,”explains a representative of 900 Holdings. “I think it’s fair to say that the Singapore consumer is very conscious and they are very aware of their purchases and making decisions that they feel good about. As a brand, we want to make sure that we can give consumers options that they can feel good about.”
Roots Regenerative is available at Yardbird Southern Table and Bar, as well as RedMart.
