The Creators Releases the 3rd Episode Featuring Janice Wong, Chocolatier Extraordinaire!
Local video production house CreatorsLab are continuing their documentary series with a new episode, poised to showcase creative, unusual chefs in Singapore as well as get an insight into their brains.
On Wednesday, members of the media were granted the opportunity to preview a screening of the episode, 3
rd in the series under the title The Creators. The episode, which focuses on dessert extraordinaire and chocolatier Janice Wong, helps us shape a story that many may not necessarily know about her. In fact, watching the episode, you still get the sense that you’re not seeing all of the chef and her motivations in creating the art she makes, but it’s definitely much more than what Chef Wong has ever let anyone in before. The episode showcases key moments in Chef Wong’s life, which included an experiment in blindness to help increase her sensitivity, a car accident that some attribute to the beginning of her creativity and exploration into dessert making, as well as her work into edible art.
The screening included a panel discussion with Chef Wong, Chef LG Han of Labyrinth (the subject of the first episode of The Creators), and CEO and creative director Mr Jon Lister, whose creative vision can be seen all throughout the episode. One of the things that both Chef Wong and Chef Han both agree on was how the scope of the documentary episodes focused so much more on the chefs and their creativity, rather than just about the food. It’s one of the reasons why Chef Han, who was the first interview subject, pushed Mr Lister and his team to interview Chef Wong in the first place. “We’re friends, but I don’t know much about her, so I told Jon to interview and dig up some dirt on her,” he joked. And the way the episode is framed makes the series so much more unique than other documentary series and food shows out there: focused on the personalities, with a few secondary interviews from people around them. It's minimal, it's short and snappy, and it presents a close, singular narrative on the chefs in question.
The event ended off with burrito bowls and guacamole chips supplied by Papi’s Tacos and wine from Wine Mouth.
