Burrito Bowl Lunchtime at Cafe Iguana!
What goes into a good delivery menu? For one, a good menu includes a range of times that you can consume in a quick, timely fashion, that isn't too filling and yet can give you the nutrients of what you need. This was the basis of the lunch menus that Chef Seow Tzi Qin of Brewerkz was thinking when revamping Cafe Iguana takeaway/delivery Ala carte menu!
“What we are doing is a prelude to the newly revamped Cafe Iguana menu that will take place end September,” explains Chef Seow via Whatsapp. “Due to the restrictions on dining in, the purpose was to come up with affordable burrito bowls that offers meatless substitutes and a twist from the authentic Mexican cuisine that Cafe Iguana usually serves. A large majority of the clientele at Café Iguana happen to comprise of the Southeast Asian community, who appreciate spices a lot. We wanted to fuse Modern Mexican and American flavours popular amongst the West with local Southeast Asian flavours.”
And some of the offerings are definitely flavours distinctly amazing and fresh. All the different burrito bowls offer something unique yet consistent with the launch. The launch includes bowls like Muchacho Chicken, Mexicana Veggie, Barbacoa Beef Bowl, BBQ Pork Carnitas, and Jalapeno Prawn Bowl. We particularly loved the Jalapeno Prawn Bowl ( cilantro pilaf rice, jalapeno lime prawns, mango pineapple salsa, tomato chutney) where the fresh plump prawns go fantastically well with the fruity tropical flavours of the mango pineapple salsa and the tang of the tomato chutney, and the BBQ Pork Carnitas bowl (tomato rice, BBQ pork ribs. Chipotle honey BBQ sauce, and candied jalapenos, which was reminiscent of the Southwest BBQ style favoured by Americans with the tang of the Latin-inspired Candied jalapenos.
