Workers Crunch On F&B Scene Tough On Operators
People can attest to the fact that thanks to the recent Covid-19 situation, major sectors within the multiple industries have been affected, including the Food and Beverage industry.
This can range from multiple areas, including receiving new ingredients, reducing the number of seats within the restaurant, delivery and take away options, and of course, the manpower crunch. Much has been said about the manpower crunch in Singapore, with the amount of jobs that usually fall to workers from foreign countries at a low. With many looking for Singaporean citizens, or residents to work in the F&B scene, many are still falling short on the quotas needed to run the kitchens properly.
The Straits Times recently ran an article naming some sectors that are suffering from the recent labour crunch due to the lack of foreign workers, with one being the F&B sector. In fact, some of the operators have indicated that operating costs have gone up due to having to give higher wages to the workers that want to work in the kitchen, instead of the cheaper labour that was available before.
