Chef Gary Rhodes , British Culinary Icon, Passed Away at Age 59
The culinary world was shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Chef Gary Rhodes, famed British restauranteur and television chef extraordinaire, this week when he took ill in his residence in Dubai and passed away a short while after.
The chef, who was 59 at the time of his passing, had been taking a break when filming a new series when he suddenly took ill at home in Dubai and had to be rushed to the hospital. Family members have confirmed that he passed away as a result of a subdural hematoma, normally associated with a brain injury. They’ve also asked for privacy during this period of time. “There are no other details and the family would again request privacy around this very tragic loss and again, thank friends and family for their ongoing support at this time” reads a family statement that had been put out to the London Standard.
Chefs from all over the world have paid tribute to the British chef, who they deem as one of the reasons British cuisine has been put on the map. “Gary was a fantastic chef and incredible ambassador for British cooking, he was a massive inspiration to me as a young chef,” wrote Jaime Oliver on his Instagram page. “He re-imagined modern British cuisine with elegance and fun. rest in peace Chef."
Cuisine & Wine Asia would like to take this opportunity to give our condolences to Chef Rhodes’ family and loved ones during this time period.
