GAMO: The New Muslim-Owned Bakery You Simply Must Try! A welcome spot to the Bras Basah area, at the heart of the Arts District in Singapore, Gamo is the perfect spot to have a spot of tea after a day of buying art supplies and secondhand books. And the place is a great one for all to visit: the Japanese-influenced bakery is halal, which means you will be able to bring all your friends to chill at this café. With a minimalist vibe, the café is deceptively spacious and filled with bright light and unfussy furniture. Spearheaded by Chef Shah Sarifi, who founded GAMO after realising the lack of fine bakes that catered to the Muslim community, the café is her vision to incorporate great quality ingredients into her products for her customers, resulting in great bakes. Chef Sarifi, who cut her teeth as a pastry chef in renowned 5-Star hotels all across Singapore, has a discerning eye and a perfect palate when it comes to her desserts, which means that she uses only good, quality ingredients for her baking. Ingredients include Elle & Vire butter, matcha powder sourced directly from Kyoto, chocolate from the historic Cacao Barry, and French flour of the highest calibre: the Grand Mouslin De Paris T55.

GAMO has started out strong with their signature range of offerings, which includes sweet desserts and great baked bread. For those on the go, get the pain au Suisse, which is flaky and crispy, with every delicate fold visible and buttery on the tongue, with chocolate that balances the flavours with a beautiful smooth texture. Their croissants are also an option for those looking for something to start off with, and the flakey, buttery bread is a must try. Another highlight that you should try amongst their sweet treats? The Strawberry Mochi Tart will overwhelm the diner with the smooth strawberry curd and pink guava puree, with strawberries and fresh handmade mochi for contrast and balance of textures. It’s one of the greater desserts available on sale.

Those who may be interested in trying more of their exciting bakes would be excited to know that the weekends will showcase a larger variety of pastries, including different flavours of croons, or circular croissants, that are now in trend. Stocks are limited, so it helps to come in early before they run out!
