When a Chef ‘Spikes’ a Vegan Meal The matter of spiking food was so commonly depicted in movies in my childhood days in Hong Kong that, young as I was then, I knew better than to offend a waiter in a cha chaan teng (local tea house) or risk receiving special attention for my food.  
 
Recently it seems a chef in England was upset about a request from a group of vegan guests, and decided to vent her frustration by confessing that she’d ‘spiked a vegan’ on a social media post. In her own words, “Pious, judgmental vegan (who I spent all day cooking for) has gone to bed, still believing she’s a vegan.” The head chef of the restaurant, Carlini, soon received death threats as the post went viral. Apparently, Laura Goodman had spent much time designing a special vegan menu for the party only for one of them to order a pizza topped with mozzarella cheese. As of Wednesday, she had tendered her resignation and apologised. “I am really deeply sorry. There were no meat products added to the dishes.” What are your thoughts on the matter?
