A few months ago, Muji’s outpost at Paragon was found quiet and empty. Now, the shop is brimming with shoppers and diners thanks to the introduction of a café, which centres on serving healthy Japanese food. This formula of allowing customers to shop and dine at the same place enhances the shopping experience and even boosted sales by 40 per cent. Experts say by adding a food and beverage concept gives brick-and-mortar stores an advantage over online stores, and it is a good tactic to differentiate themselves in a saturated retail market.
