A Kinki Time At Kinki Restaurant + Bar

A Kinki Time At Kinki Restaurant + Bar  Kinki Restaurant + Bar is an urban Japanese concept, taking more modernist versions of Japanese cuisine and combining it with standards from other cuisines such as Mediterranean, Spanish, and Chinese. The casual, graffiti-clad decor makes it a great place to hang out with friends after work in the CDB, and the breath-taking views make it worth a trip down.

With them reopening their restaurant and welcoming back the crowd, the restaurant is launching a new menu with some well-deserved choices made by Chef Terrence Ong, who was trained in European and Japanese cuisine.  Start with the Tuna Tartare Tortilla, using soy-aged bluefin tuna, avocado, mitsuba, yuzu citrus, sricha soy, and microherbs on a crispy tortilla at the beginning, a version of the taco and pizza with Japanese influences. The fish is sweet, thanks to the yuzu citrus and sriracha soy bringing out the natural flavours of the tuna, and it worked well with the crispy base, which held up well despite the juices and the sauces drizzling the fish.

People can choose from a selection of rolls offered at Kinki Restaurant, themed after music and western culture, cheekily known as the Rock and Roll. A favourite is the AC/DC a deep fried mixed seafood roll with fresh raw seafood and homemade sriracha sauce. It's another example of what the restaurant and Chef Ong do best: a good combination of Japanese base staples with a western, more flavourful kick. Others who may want a more comforting dish can get it with the Unagi Claypot, a take on Unagi dons and the Chinese claypot rice. The rice is nicely charred, which lends a smokiness to the unagi and the sauce, but soft, already a wide difference from the conventional Chinese claypot rice.

Another highlight to watch out for is the Crusty Lamb Rack, already an anomaly in a Japanese restaurant. The Koji-aged lamb rack is baked with mentaiko breadcrumbs covering the surface of the lamb, and served with dehydrated sugar ginger, which lends a kick of sweetness and spice to the meat. The dish is easy to consume, picking the rib up with your fingers is the key, and make sure you eat it alongside a strip of dehydrated sugar ginger. A treat for the senses.
