The World's Best 50 Restaurants Award Honour Chef Chef Jose Andrés in the Inagural American Express Icon Award

The World's Best 50 Restaurants Award Honour Chef Chef Jose Andrés in the Inagural American Express Icon Award The World 50 Best Restaurant Awards is proud to announce the winner of the inaugural global American Express Icon Award, Chef Jose Andrés, not just because of his culinary skill, but also his reach to help those in need.



The chef is credited as the one who introduced both classic and forward-thinking interpretations of Spanish tapas, and counts more than 30 restaurants in his portfolio, incluing Michelin two-star restaurant Minibar. But he is also the man who , in 2010, launched World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization aimed at feeding those affected by natural disasters. The organization has provided meals in disasters such as Hurricane Maria, providing nearly four million meals.

Chef Andrés has been honoured by magazines such as Time, as one of the world’s most influential people, and named Humanitarian of the Year by the James Beard Foundation. Thanks to his ability to lead, empower and connect communities in the world, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is honouring Chef Andrés with the American Express Icon Award, and he will be receiving the American Express Icon Award at The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2019 awards ceremony on Tuesday 25th June at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
