Salmonella Bacteria Found in Netherlands-Imported Pork Triggers Recall The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority has called for batches of these frozen pork products to be recalled after reports of Salmonella goldcoast was linked to a single slaughterhouse in the Netherlands. The AVA is working with importers to recall these pork products.

Salmonella is a strain of bacteria that can cause a bacterial infection known as salmonellosis, which can be avoided when cooking food thoroughly and preventing cross contamination, and consumers are reminded to always cook raw meat thoroughly.

This announcement comes after Singapore was hit with a string of food poisoning cases that have stemmed from improper hygiene practices in food establishments, which has become rather troubling considering not just the number of cases from different establishments in Singapore in the last few weeks, but also the fact that none of the cases are linked to each other. This shows that there are lapses in the food industry when it comes to hygiene practices, and that it is not an isolated mistake made by one establishment.

The move to contain the spread of contaminated products by the AVA is commendable considering the holiday season coming up in the next few days, and it becomes imperative for food handlers to practice proper hygiene protocols and discard expired or suspected contaminated products especially in the busy holiday season.
