Another Michelin Star Handed Back - Choice By Welsh Restaurant

Another Michelin Star Handed Back - Choice By Welsh Restaurant It's a common known fact that a Michelin star can wreck havoc on the personal lives of chefs and restaurant staff - and its a growing consensus among chefs. Marco Pierre White himself even recently refused to sit Michelin inspectors at his newly opened restaurant in the Kampong Glam area.

Stephane Borie, Sarah Francis, and Kathryn Francis, owners of the Checkers restaurant in Montgomery, Powys, Wales, decided that they had enough of this pressure; returning their conveted star rating ahead of the publication of the 2019 edition of the guide in October. Sarah Francis and Borie have three young children while Kathryn, Sarah's sister, has to bring up two. The star has brought much boon to the restaurant, and to the town its situated in, but has wrecked havoc on their family life.

The restaurant will be relaunched in November as Checkers Pantry, in a direction that allows the owners to put their family first: opening for breakfast and lunch with drinks and cakes available throiughout the day.
